Good morning, Wycombe!

It’s the Wycombe Pulse. Your local newsletter that’s considering applying for the Manager position at Wycombe Wanderers.

Always up for a new challenge. Probably need to swot up on the offside rule first.

Anyway, it’s another bumper week ahead in Wycombe. Some highlights:

Plus we’ve got a whole host of relaxation and wellness events, interesting stop-offs just out of town like a book signing and a ‘quirky’ wedding fair, plenty of live music and entertainment, kids’ events and more.

The Old Queen’s Head pub in Penn is reopening this Friday 17th January after a brief post-Christmas closure. Their doors open from 4pm and there’ll be live music too from 7pm! 🍻

Community Notes

Public Inquiry: the Public Inquiry for the nearby Marlow Film Studios project begins on Tuesday 21st January at 10am at Bucks Council’s offices in High Wycombe. Based on this inquiry, Angela Rayner will make a decision on whether the £3.5 billion project will go ahead or not. You can find out more about the inquiry here.

Volunteering: Read Easy Chilterns are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to guide a small group of coaches and readers along their reading journey. They would like someone warm and caring, a people person, problem solver and with some spare time to join the established team of coordinators. Dementia Café: on today, Thursday 16th January from 2.30-4pm in The Sanctuary at St Margaret’s Church in Tylers Green. It is open to all faiths and none, for anyone who has or cares for someone with Dementia.

Staff Wanted

Spa Host at Reset Wild Spa — required from April to September at Peterley Manor Farm, open to applicants who would like anything between 1-6 shifts per week.

Support Worker at Wycombe Homeless Connection — full-time (with occasional weekend and evening work) and office based with some flexible options. They are recruiting for 2 positions.

Assistant Store Manager at Sports Direct — you will be assisting and deputising for the Store Manager, supporting visual merchandising, and leading the team in sales and operations.

Farm Manager at Peterley Manor Farm — a Working Farm Manager required for this 40-acre, family-run farm.

Where In Wycombe Am I?

Which famous town building can you find behind these beautiful chair paintings?

Last week’s answer: I was in the gardens at Pann Mill. This is the last working mill on the River Wye and an absolute heritage treasure for Wycombe. The gardens are always open and there are also regular Open Days where you can see the mill in action and even buy some of its delicious wholemeal flour — the next one is Sunday 11th May. The millers are always on the lookout for new volunteers to help with the upkeep and operation of Pann Mill so please drop them a line if you’re interested (head to pannmill.org.uk for more details).
