Plus we’ve got the lowdown on all Wycombe’s New Year’s Eve parties, from free entry to a luxury night on the tiles, as well as walks, sports events, kids’ fun and much more.

This Week’s Highlights

  • New Year’s Day Parkrun at The Rye at 9am — start 2025 the way you mean to go on! It’s sure to be a festive and fun experience on the 5km route, whether you’re a seasoned parkrunner or are trying it for the first time. Everyone is welcome! See you there? 🏃🏻‍♂️

  • Christmas Trek and Treat at Roald Dahl Museum on Friday 27th December at 11.45am and 2.15pm — blow off the Christmas cobwebs with a guided tour around Great Missenden, where you’ll see some of the places that inspired Dahl, and return to the museum for a hot drink and a sweet treat 🥧

  • New Year’s Day Walk starting at The Red Lion in Penn at 10.30am — bring your wellies! Dogs and kids are welcome too 🥾

  • Aladdin at the Wycombe Swan from 26th December to 5th January 2025 (no performance on 1st January) — it’s been extremely well reviewed so far and promises to be a riotously good day out, starring Vernon Kay and La Voix 🎭

  • ‘Paws for Pudding’ Charity Dog Walk at Black Country Park on Friday 27th November at 11am — bring your pups and your Christmas jumpers for a super-chill hour-long walk finishing up at the Lakeside Café 🐕‍🦺

Twixmas Fun

  • A Christmas Mystery Trail at Cliveden from Thursday 26th December to Sunday 5th January — it’s Christmas Eve 1924 and you’ve received an invitation to Lady Nancy Astor’s elegant Christmas party, but all is not as it seems. You’ll need your detective skills and puzzle solving brain to complete the trail. Suitable for young, old and in-between! Just £3 per trail.

  • A Nordic Christmas at Hughenden from Thursday 26th December to Friday 3rd January — explore the decorated house inspired by Norse mythology and the family activity trail.

  • Big John’s Xmas Bash at Trilogy on Friday 27th December from 10pm — join Big John for a night at Trilogy. Bosh!

  • Heroic Animals with Jungle Juniors at Roald Dahl Museum on Saturday 28th December at various times — get up close and personal in this animal handling session, just £4 per person in addition to museum entry.

  • Jon Walsh live at the Mad Squirrel on Friday 27th December from 8pm — an acoustic jazz and Chicago blues duo.

Child Bereavement UK are collecting and recycling Christmas trees from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th January 2025 in postcodes HP7, HP8, HP9, HP10, HP11, HP12, HP13, SL2, SL6, SL7, SL8, and SL9. You can make a donation and book your collection by registering online by 5th January 2025.

Received a tub (or 6 🐷) of chocolates this Chrimbo? Greene King pubs have brought back their ‘Tub2Pub’ campaign for 2024 whereby you can bring your empty chocolate tubs to any Greene King from 1st January to 11th Feb. All proceeds from recycling the plastic tubs will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. Our closest Greene Kings are The Crown Penn, The Crown Hazlemere and Marlow Donkey.

Do you know a 16 or 17 year old who uses the Voi e-scooters that are dotted around town? Bucks Council have announced that they will not be able to use them from 1st January 2025 as Voi’s insurers have decided to stop offering insurance to under 18s.

The Pulse’s Christmas Message 2024

As we approach the end of the year, I want to say a heartfelt thanks to you, the reader, for supporting Wycombe Pulse in 2024.

From our (very) humble beginnings back in July, we’ve grown every week and there are now almost 3,000 of you receiving our weekly emails. For everyone that opens and reads, as well as those that let me know about upcoming events or interesting stories, thank you so much. We’ve also got a very engaged community on Facebook and Instagram so thank you to everyone who’s recommended us, liked or commented on our posts or even just mentioned us to others. We always notice and we’re really grateful.

My inbox is always open so please feel free to send me an email if you’ve got any ideas, comments, events, or anything else you want to share.
