Where Are Our Readers Eating Out?
We've been asking our newest subscribers about their favourite restaurants in Wycombe. Here's a few quick recommendations if you're planning your next meal out...
My favourite place to eat and drink is the Merletto Lounge. I moved to High Wycombe a couple of years ago and was overjoyed to find out that a lounge had made it to this neck of the woods! I was a regular visitor to a lounge elsewhere and the Merletto has more than lived up to my memories of my old hang-out. Bravo!
I'm a big fan of Osaka in the Eden Centre. Definitely the place to go if you're craving Japanese. The sushi and ramen are 🤌🏼
Can't go wrong with the Mad Squirrel for a quick pizza and a glass of wine.
Don’t be shy! Send us your recommendations…
Sports
Wycombe Wanderers are playing Watford at Adams Park on Tuesday 30th July in their only home pre-season friendly. Kick off is at 7.30pm so come on down to cheer on the Chairboys ⚽️
And if you're a fan of footgolf, you might want to take on the Chairboys' invitation to 'A Game of Two Halves' on the same day - you'll play 18 holes at Richings Park in Iver before returning to Adams Park for a pre-match meal and prizes, followed by watching the friendly against Watford. Tickets include coach travel between the locations.
Raging Ball, the pool hall on Corporation Street, is currently undergoing some refurbishments. Several English pool tables will be out of action for the next few days. Rest of the club is unaffected.
Something a little different...
We've mentioned the Chilterns Chairs Festival a couple of times and one of their events that really stands out is their 'Chair and Chair Alike' cemetery tour around High Wycombe cemetery on Sunday 28th July.
Sally Scagell will lead the tour for around 60-75 minutes, linking Wycombe's rich local chairmaking history with the many individuals now at rest in the cemetery. Sally is renowned for her excellent cemetery tours, so this is a must-attend if you're so inclined.
Community Notes
Community Action Day today, Thursday 25th July, with Bucks Council, Thames Valley Police, NHS Bucks and local housing providers to address residents' concerns of anti-social behaviour. Drop in and chat to the teams at Wycombe Museum from 11am to 3pm today. Time to get your voices heard! 📣
Bucks Council want to hear your views on their draft Air Quality Action Plan for the county - please consider completing their survey. The draft outlines their plans to improve air quality between 2024 and 2030.
The second-hand bookshop at Hughenden Manor could do with more books, particularly fiction. You can drop any donations off at the visitor reception on the way to the car park.
Volunteering opportunities
Kingswood and River Wye Clean -- join the brilliant Chiltern Rangers on one of their many volunteer days to improve the area we live in. You'll be helping out at Kingsmead Rec in and along the river banks, clearing any litter and excess vegetation, as well as hedge cutting, clearing the paths and even planting wild flowers. Arrive at 10am today for wader fitting 🦆
Tucking in and trimming the vines at Daws Hill Vineyard on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th July -- a great way to see and contribute to the wine making experience. And even better... lunch is included alongside some sparkling wine 🍾
Where Am I?
Let’s put your eagle eyes to the test…
Whose sumptuous High Wycombe sitting room am I standing in?

First to get it right wins bragging rights (and possible posthumous regards from Queen Victoria...) 😉
